and ash wednesday
So I'm posting to post about nothing in particular. Sarah and I got back from Mardi Gras yesterday around 4...so I'll recap the parades:ummm...
Friday: Metairie parade...I don't really know which one it was. Do you remember, Sarah? It was just kind of a minor one in Metairie.
Saturday: Iris- theme was "A Whirl of Celebrations" it's an all-women crew so...they don't really throw as far(or as much) as the men(and men and women) crews.
then...
Tucks: Theme "The Big Easy SINerama"- their floats were movies that had sins in them...the only one I remember was like "Peter Pan and the Lustful boys" or something. pretty good as always.
Endymion- "Mythological Menagerie"- My cousin was in this one...and it's like the biggest parade at Mardi Gras. So...there are thousands of people along the parade route and we were struggling to get in the front for "Float 11-B!" and...when he passed, he didn't hear us. Plus, the parade was stopped for like half an hour so we started walking to go find my cousin and we had to go through a scary place full of drunk people who were making out and everything was dark so when you walked, all you stepped on were beer bottles! yuck. oh yeah, and we saw Gene Simmons riding on a float(so sarah took a picture)
Sunday: Okeanos- their theme was "Events from the Past"- pretty good one...I got a few doubloons...and beads, of course. for being hot. (Ha.)
umm...then...Thoth: MY FAVORITE! I love thoth. they throw so much to me(and I got a kiss blown to me!) their theme was "Below the Equator" where their floats were just countries below the equator...sarah was hoping for antarctica while I was hoping for australia and her's came(with a seal that looked like a dolphin and plenty of penguins..) then mine came right after(with a kangeroo...creative!) I remember Fiji Islands had a scary face on its float.
then...umm...Mid-City- all their floats are decorated from foil...very pretty. they are famous for throwing chips(yuuuum). their theme was "Just Another Super Sunday at the Movies" and they had like...football teams in movies.
Missed Bacchus unfortunately...missed Sean Astin and Elijah Wood. Oh well. I got to see Paul in the SuperBowl Halftime show. (didn't you just love his stage? it was so cool that he had all the video playing on the stage...word.) haha.
Monday: well, not many parades run on Lundi Gras so we went to Audubon Zoo and saw cool stuff. Sea Lions were extremely cool...the white alligator looked dead(AND IT REALLY DID!!! but then it moved a leg or something) and...umm...the flamingos were stinky...sarah and I rode the carousel(I was on the tiger and she was on the panda) Zoos provide many good picture opportunities. (and my head has to be in every picture...I WAS AT THE ZOO. right, sarah?)
oh yes, and on Monday night, we went to the Zeus parade in Metairie...the theme was "Exotic Destinations" and we think they probably split the cost of decorating floats with Thoth because many of the floats were the same ones that were in Thoth's parade(including the seal resembling a dolphin one for antarctica). oh yeah, we ate at hooter's for lunch. I think there were about seven women in that place not counting the waitresses(but counting sarah, my mom, and me.)
Tuesday: Happy Mardi Gras! Woke up at the crack of dawn to go to Zulu- okay..well, I just tried for like 5 minutes to find the theme for Zulu and I have no idea what it was for 2005. I got like...two beads from this parade...there were six billion people there. but my cousin was in it(one of about five white guys total) and he gave us a coconut(traditional major zulu handout)...so we got it and left because the parade was stupid.
went back to metairie, tried to go to Argus, realized we missed it so sarah and I walked down to see *gasp* TRUCK PARADES. which suck. completely. but we got like two beads and decided to go back and eat lots of crap. yay crap. we ate...leftover hooter's wings...spaghetti...meringue cookies...iced oatmeal cookies...rice krispie treats...umm...a lot of other stuff that I can't think of. oh! crackers and easy cheese...mmm...yay.
So did everyone have a nice Mardi Gras? I certainly hope so. Ask me for pictures whenever because I don't know how to post them and I don't really feel like learning.
Bye!
